In 2016, The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) acquired the world’s second-largest collection of Diane Arbus work, some 522 images. Marking that landmark acquisition, DIANE ARBUS: PHOTOGRAPHS, 1956–1971 runs February 22 to May 17, 2020. Overseen by AGO Curator, Sophie Hackett, this major solo exhibition—the first in Canada in three decades—will underscore how Arbus revolutionized portraiture with her striking black and white photographs, naturalist style, and outre range of subjects; nudists and suburban families to circus performers and celebrities.
